Biography
Welcome! I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics at the University of Udine.
I earned my PhD degree from the University of Udine, Italy. My doctoral research focused on the acoustic source localization using microphone arrays.
I do research in Audio and Acoustic Signal Processing, specifically in the areas of Acoustic Sensor Array Processing and Computer Audition:
- Source localization and tracking
- Signal enhancement beamforming
- Deep learning methods for acoustic sensor array processing
- Simultaneous localization and mapping of sources and sensors
- Binaural hearing
- Acoustic scene classification
- Acoustic event detection and classification
- Speaker identification
Currently, my work involves:
- Steered response power algorithms
- Sensor array processing and neural networks
- Time delay estimation methods
- Automatic procedure for the optimal microphones arrangement
- Sound source localization with moving microphone arrays
- Microphone array musical interface
- Microphone arrays on drone
- Machine learning in acoustic source localization
- Speaker identification with deep learning
- Joint localization and identification of speakers
- Binaural acquisition and reproduction
I achieved the National Scientific qualification as full professor in the Italian higher education system for the disciplinary field of 09/H1 - Information processing systems.
I am a member of the PhD program faculty in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Editorial Activities
I am a guest editor of Pattern Recognition Letters for the special issue "Pattern recognition in multimodal information analysis: observation, extraction, classification, and interpretation".
Submission Deadline: September 20th, 2024
The special issue outlines recent advances in the pattern recognition field, intending to bring together the work of scholars in this multidisciplinary subject, drawing on the different skills and knowledge of pattern recognition approaches applied in the multimodal information analyzing from the perspective of observing, extraction, classifying and interpretation.
I am an Associate Editor of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, and an Handling Editor of Signal Processing.
I was an academic editor of Complexity (2021-2023), a managing guest editor of Pattern Recognition Letters for the special issue "Deep Learning for Acoustic Sensor Array Processing" (2022-2023), and a guest editor of Electronics for the special issue "Applications of Audio and Acoustic Signal" (2021-2022).
